Implementation Of A New Registration Number Format For Business Entities Registered With Companies Commission Of Malaysia (SSM)


Below are extract of FAQ published by SSM subsequent to the implementation of the 12 digit new registration number format:

1.
What is the purpose of the introduction of 12 digit new registration number?

Firstly, to replace the various formats of registration numbers generated by the exisiting system. This would be in line with the Government’s initiative to use a single registration format for business entities in Malaysia.
Secondly, the new format consists of the following characters:
i. contains a 12 digits number similar to the National Identity Card Number (NRIC);
ii. with a value interms of displaying the existence of companies, businesses and LLPs in the industry based on the year of registration; and
iii. to set the limit for the registration number which then simplifies system development compared to the unlimited setting of the registration numbers.

2.
What was the action taken by SSM to inform its public and stakeholders regarding this matter?

The announcement have been made via SSM’s official portal, social media and posters distributed at SSM’s Headquarters and State Offices.

3.
When filing a statutory document/ registration at SSM’s service counters, which registration number format should be stated?

Both registration number formats can be stated during submission or lodgement of statutory documents / registration. It also applies to the cover letter to SSM.

4.
Is the certificate or notice of registraiton issued before the date of implementation still valid?

Yes, the certificate and notice of registration is still valid and does not need to be replaced.

5.
What should we do if the third party disputes the validity of the new registration number format?

The third party is advised to obtain the letter of authentication from any of SSM’s service counters (except UTC Pudu, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya).

6.
Will the information of the new registration number foramt appear in the supplied corporate information?

Yes, once implemented, the printed corporate information will also displayed the new registration number format.
