Scenario
AAA Sdn Bhd (Actual name of company is conceived to protect the confidentiality) is a cup noodles manufacturer in Malaysia, with over five (5) years of business history. 

Their products can be found in the most sundry, convenient, groceries shop. Over the years, they have expanded their product range in tandem with local market demand and taste.

Struggle
In the past, AAA focus only on local Malaysia market. With easier access to manufacturers and improvement in logistics, AAA market shares is getting smaller and smaller which translate into reduced revenue over years.  Realizing the local market will continue to become more and more competitive for AAA to grow, the management knew they had to expand beyond the country.

After in deep market analysis, they decided to expand into Taiwan market for a variety of strategic reason. After market research on the Taiwanese market, they develop a low risk market penetration strategy for the new market. They decided to participate an International Trade events in Taipei Nayang Exhibition Centre on 31st December 2020 to promote AAA cup noodles.

Marketing Development Grant (MDG) is an export support initiative in the form of a reimbursable grant. It is eligible for those attend international trade fairs and event to promote Malaysia products or services in current or virtual form.

What is Marketing Developing Grant (MDG)?

The Market Development Grant (MDG) is an export support initiative in the form of a reimbursable grant. MDG was introduced in 2002 with the objective of assisting exporters in their efforts to promote Malaysian made products or services globally. The lifetime limit of MDG is RM300,000 and it is specifically formulated for Malaysian SME Companies, Professional Service Providers, Trade and Industry Associations, Chambers of Commerce, Professional Bodies and Co-operatives.

In 2020, export initiatives under MDG was further expanded to include recognised international Virtual Events, including virtual trade exhibitions and virtual trade missions, where business-to-business (B2B) meetings are an integral part of these virtual events.

What is eligible for MDG?

  • Current Events

  • Participation in International Trade Fairs or Exhibitions held locally/oversea

  • Participation in Trade & Investment Missions (TIM) or Export Acceleration Missions (EAM)

  • Participation in International Conferences Held Overseas

  • Listing Fees for Made in Malaysia Products in Supermarkets or Hypermarkets or Retail Centres or Boutique Outlets Located Overseas

  • Virtual Events

  • Participation in Virtual International Trade Fairs In Malaysia Or Overseas

  • Participation In Business To Business (B2B) Meetings Related To Virtual Trade Investment Missions And Export Acceleration Missions

 

How AAA make the claim with Matrade?

1)    Registered as MATRADE member

The registration is simple, just visit the MATRADE official website as link below: http://www.matrade.gov.my/en/online-applications/register-as-matrade-member 
And fill up your company information as required. Registration is free.

2)    Make the claim online

AAA can claim the MDG within 30 days from the last date of promotion activity. The application can be made online:www.matrade.gov.my/mdg

The documentations required is to proof your presence in this events, such as payment trails, flight ticket, exhibitor pass and others. Please make sure you keep all the documentations and fully utilise the grant!
