(SSM) Free Business Registration Under The 'Skim Pendaftaran Perniagaan Prihatin (SPPP)

Effective from 22nd December 2020, B40 groups of Youth and Single Mother and Student from any public or private Higher Learning Institutions will be exempted from all business registration charges (under the Registration of Business Act 1956) should they wish to register their business with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM). This scheme is implemented until the allocation of this grant is used up.

SPPP was launched on 23 December 2020 and offers free business registration to entrepreneurs in group B40 (target group are youths and single mothers) and Full Time IPT Students.

Who is the eligible applicant for such group for SPPP

Category A - Group B40 entrepreneur:

  • MyKad/ MyPR holders

  • Citizens aged 18 years and above

  • Have information in the database of recipients of Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN) for Group B40. (You may check the status at https://bpr.hasil.gov.my/Account/Login )

  • There is no record of business entities that are still active in SSM.

Category B - Full-Time IPT Students Category:

  • MyKad/ MyPR holders

  • Citizens aged 18 years and above

  • Full-time study/ course at any IPTA/ IPTS/ Polytechnic/ College/ Skills Institute/ Skill Center in Malaysia

  • There is no record of business entities that are still active in SSM.

This group of entrepreneurs who wish to register their business with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) will be exempted from registration fees and business information for a year with one (1) application. However, renewals and any branches will be charged as usual.

How much is the exemption of the registration fee?

  • RM30.00 per year for Sole Proprietorship business using own name as on identity card

  • RM60.00 per year for Sole Proprietorship and Partnership business using trade name

  • RM10.00 for business information printout

Although the exemption fee is less than RM70.00 per year, it was reported that 13,916 business was successful registered within a short period of 7 months with an average of 2,000 registration per month.

It seems like a new trend where more and more youth, students and single mothers kick start their business opportunities through small business and get benefited from this scheme during the Covid.
