(Biz Update) Flood Aid in Johor

(Biz Update) Flood Aid in Johor

Recently, Johor was hit hard by severe floods. Now that the weather has improved, affected residents and volunteers are working tirelessly to clean up and rebuild.

In the midst of this, government aid plays a crucial role — and it’s important to ensure every flood victim receives the support they deserve.

How to Apply for the Special Flood Aid (Bantuan Khas Banjir)?

If you’re eligible, just prepare these documents and visit your District Office (Pejabat Daerah) to get your village chief (Penghulu / Ketua Kampung) to sign and confirm your situation :

  1. Completed appeal form

  2. Copy of the IC of the applicant (head of the household)

  3. Police report showing proof of property damage or flood impact

Successful applicants will receive RM3,000 per household — a big help to lighten the financial burden and restart life.

Not All Flood Victims Stayed at PPS — But They Still Deserve Help

Currently, the government mostly relies on the registration list from the temporary evacuation centres (PPS) to identify flood victims and distribute the special flood relief aid.

But in reality, many flood victims did not or could not register at these centres for various reasons:

✅ Some didn’t manage to evacuate in time and stayed at home, waiting for the water level to drop
✅ Some work in the flood zone but don’t live there — like business owners or workers — and their properties like cars and tools were still damaged
✅ Some were just passing through the area in their cars and got stuck
✅ Others had personal or family reasons to stay home, but were still affected by the floods

It would be unfair if these people were denied the RM3,000 aid just because they didn’t stay at the evacuation centre.

That’s why we appreciate the move by Jawatankuasa Pengurusan Bencana Negeri Johor (Johor State Disaster Management Committee) to open an appeal process, allowing those who did not stay at PPS to also apply for the flood aid.

Our Appeal: Please Simplify the Process

Flood victims are already facing stress from losses, and they’re also busy cleaning their homes, handling insurance claims, replacing damaged appliances, and so on. Extra steps like filing police reports and queuing at government offices only add to the burden.

We urge the government to simplify the process — maybe consider identifying victims based on the flood zone, and reduce red tape. Even better, introduce an online application system so that victims don’t need to travel all the way to the district office.

Stay strong, Johor!
